Amazon.com carries a comprehensive product line including media, apparel, consumer electronics, health and personal-care items, industrial and scientific supplies, and more. These are distributed through the main site or through derivative services such as Amazon Fresh, Amazon Prime, and Amazon Drive. The company also offers products such as virtual assistant Alexa and the Kindle reading tablet series, and the company owns over 40 subsidiaries including Audible, Goodreads, IMDb, and Shopbop.

Amazon.com, Inc. is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, where it was founded. It has over 1.3 million employees worldwide in 2021, with 950,000 of them working in the US. Internationally, the company has its European headquarters in Luxembourg City. It also has software development centers and customer service centers around the world.

Amazon went public in May 1997 and trades under the ticker 'AMZN'. The company is part of ‘FAANG’, an acronym used in finance technology that refers to the stocks of the Big Five companies in the US information technology industry: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. The company's main shareholders include founder Jeff Bezos, CEO Andrew Jassy, and SVP Jeffrey Blackburn, as well as institutions such as Advisor, Vanguard, and BlackRock.
